Connect Claude To Maple Budget

Paste one address, sign in to Maple Budget, and choose what Claude can do. No Python, no download, no API key.

Server Address

Maple Budget runs a hosted MCP server. Every app below connects to the same address:

https://api.maplebudget.com/mcp

When you connect, your app sends you to Maple Budget to sign in. You choose Read And Make Changes or Read Only, and you're sent back. There's no API key to copy or keep safe.

Claude

Works in Claude on the web, the desktop app and mobile.

  1. Open Settings → Connectors.
  2. Choose Add Custom Connector, name it Maple Budget, and paste the address above.
  3. Select Connect, sign in to Maple Budget and choose what Claude can do.
  4. In a new chat, turn on Maple Budget from the tools menu and ask, "What did I spend on eating out this month?"

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http maple-budget https://api.maplebudget.com/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, pick maple-budget and sign in in your browser.

ChatGPT

Turn on developer mode, then add a custom connector with the address above and choose OAuth. Sign in when ChatGPT asks.

Other Apps

Any MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth sign-in works the same way: give it the address and sign in. For scripts, you can also send an API key from AI Apps as Authorization: Bearer mbk_….

What It Can Do

Claude gets 66 Maple Budget tools: transactions, categories and budgets, tags and payment methods, recurring transactions, shared expenses, and Maple Finance (accounts, trades, positions, net worth and live prices). 28 of them only read. A Read Only connection only ever sees those.

Tools that change your data are marked so your app asks before using them. Some things to try:

  • "How does my spending this month compare to last month?"
  • "Here's my credit card statement. Add every transaction to Maple Budget with the right category."
  • "Split last night's $86 dinner with Sam."
  • "What's my total return across my TFSA and RRSP?"

See every tool in the Tool Reference. Investment tools need a Maple Finance subscription.

Disconnecting

Every connected app is listed in the web app under Menu → AI Apps. Disconnect one and it stops working right away. Connecting the same app again from the same computer replaces its old connection.

Troubleshooting

  • Claude doesn't use Maple Budget: make sure the connector is turned on for the chat, or mention Maple Budget in your question.
  • "This Sign-In Request Has Expired": sign-in links last 10 minutes. Start connecting again from your app.
  • It can read but not add transactions: you chose Read Only. Disconnect it in AI Apps and connect again with Read And Make Changes.
  • Still stuck? Email hello@maplebudget.com.
